NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A Long Island man was arrested and charged with attempted murder on Saturday night after allegedly attacking his parents with a knife in a violent frenzy, the Nassau County Police Department said.

A male and female victim, ages 60 and 64, respectively, were sleeping in the bedroom of their home on Cherrywood Drive in New Hyde Park at about 11:18 p.m. when their son entered and allegedly attacked them both with a knife.

Police said that Joshua Wilck, 24, continued the alleged assault on his parents as they exited the home. While outside, Wilck placed both his arms around his father's neck.

Responding officers intervened, immediately removing the defendant from his father and placing him under arrest, police said.

Both victims were transported to an area hospital in critical, but stable, condition after sustaining severe lacerations, officials said.

Wilck was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, aggravated criminal contempt, criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.

The defendant will be arraigned on Sunday in Hempstead.
