NEW JERSEY (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – New Jersey police arrested a fugitive wanted for the attempted murder of his twin sister on Sunday after a 65-mile car chase.

Reese E. Wetzel, 23, allegedly stabbed his twin sister repeatedly while she was seated in the driver's seat of a parked car in front of a residence in Ellicott City, Maryland, at around 4:15 p.m., according to the police.

He then took his sister's car, starting a police chase, according to Edison police.

Edison Police Officer Phil Smith received an alert indicating a stolen car entering Edison Township near US Highway 1 and Main Street at 8:13 p.m.

Smith located the car, a 2019 white Subaru with Maryland license plates, near 2900 Woodbridge Ave. Noticing the car traveling at high speeds, Smith initiated a pursuit after obtaining authorization from Watch Commander Lieutenant Tim Hutson, police said.

The chase extended to Mahwah going onto Interstate-287 north, at mile marker 64.9, where Wetzel stopped the vehicle.

Refusing to exit voluntarily, Wetzel was eventually removed from the car by officers and New Jersey State Troopers.

Wetzel is now in police custody, facing multiple charges, including receiving stolen property, eluding with substantial risk of physical injury, fugitive from justice, resisting arrest, and obstructing administration of law.

Wetzel's sister is in critical but stable condition.
