NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials arrested a Queens man following a car crash Thursday afternoon in New Jersey where a loaded gun, drugs and cash were recovered, authorities said.
According to Bayonne Capt. Eric Amato, 22-year-old Ryan Clough led officials on a chase after he was pulled over at Kennedy Boulevard and 34th Street for driving erratically.
Clough attempted to conceal the items in his car then drove away from police in the wrong direction on West 34th Street and continued driving dangerously, police said.
Officials called off the pursuit over fear that Clough may risk injuring bystanders.
At 5 p.m., just a short time later, police responded to a car that had crashed into a cement barrier in the vicinity of Route 440 North and Lefante Way where Clough was found outside of his car with a head injury as a result of the crash, Amato added.
Authorities seized a loaded 9mm handgun equipped with a large capacity magazine loaded with 15 rounds that was found on the ground next to Clough.
Additionally, police recovered two digital scales, 632.2 grams of Psilocybin (known as “magic mushrooms”), narcotic paraphernalia, and approximately $9,000 in suspected narcotics proceeds in the vehicle.
Clough was taken into custody and taken to the Bayonne Medical Center to be treated for his injury.
He was charged with possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm during a drug offense, possession of a large-capacity magazine, multiple drug offenses, obstructing a governmental function and eluding, officials said.
An investigation remains ongoing.
