TRUMBULL, Conn. (1010 WINS) — A Connecticut man was charged for allegedly beating his former mother-in-law to death with a baseball bat on Monday.
Ylli Shtopaku, 45, was charged with murder, authorities said Tuesday.
According to police, just before 12:30 p.m., Lida Shape, 70, was returning to her residence at the Ten Trumbull apartment complex in Trumbull with an acquaintance when the attack occurred "following a brief encounter" with Shtopaku.
Shtopaku then allegedly retrieved a bat from his vehicle and chased Shape before striking her in her head, causing her to fall to the ground, according to Trumbull police Lt. Brian Falkenstein.
Shtopaku remained at the scene and was taken into custody by Trumbull police.
Shtopaku and Shape "were previously relatives but were no longer related due to a divorce in the family several years in the past," police said in a release.
A motive for the attack remains unclear. An investigation remains ongoing.
