MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A North Carolina man was arrested and charged for allegedly shooting at a person as they drove down the New Jersey Turnpike earlier this year, New Jersey State Police said.

Brandon Rudd, 34, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses for the road rage shooting that occurred at about noon on Oct. 31 on the southbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike.

Troopers responded to milepost 48.3 in Mansfield Township, and a preliminary investigation found that Rudd’s Nissan Altima was driving near the victim’s Cadillac Escalade when police said the Cadillac was shot at and struck multiple times. The victim was not injured.

Detectives later identified Rudd as the owner of a Nissan Altima registered in North Carolina, and on Nov. 8, he was apprehended in South Mills through a multi-agency investigation.

With assistance from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina, search warrants were executed on Rudd’s residence and vehicles, resulting in the seizure of multiple pieces of evidence, including the gun that was used in the shooting and ballistics evidence that positively matched.

Rudd is currently being lodged in the Albemarle district Jail, pending extradition.

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey is investigating.
