LAKEWOOD, N.J (1010 WINS) — A man was sentenced to 60 years for the 2021 murder of two men and burglary in New Jersey, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced Friday.
Tyshaun Drummond, 42, was sentenced on Jan. 9 to 30 years and a 30-year period of parole ineligibility for the murder of Nicholas Hardy, 36.
Additionally, Drummond was sentenced to 30 years with a 30 year period of parole ineligibility in connection with the murder of Sergio Chavez-Perez, 32.
Both murders occurred on December 19, 2021, in Lakewood.
Drummond was sentenced to 10 years for the burglary. The sentences will run consecutively.
At approximately 7:20 a.m. on Dec. 19, 2021, police were called to an apartment complex on River Avenue in Lakewood for a report of shots fired.
Police dispatch was able to supply officers with a description of the suspect who fired the shots. Responding officers located a person matching the description – later identified as Drummond – in front of the apartment complex.
Drummond was ordered by police to lay on the ground and was tased when he refused to comply, authorities said.
Upon entering the apartment building, police discovered the bodies of Hardy and Chavez-Perez, who were observed to have been shot in the head.
An investigation identified Drummond as the person responsible for the victims' deaths. Drummond has been lodged in the Ocean County Jail since his release from a local hospital on December 21, 2021.
