NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Long Island man who was arrested last year after a woman’s body was found stuffed in a suitcase outside his apartment building was hit with additional charges this week for allegedly suffocating the victim by falling asleep on top of her, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney announced Wednesday.

Ronald Schroeder, 41, was charged with criminal sexual act and manslaughter in the death of Seikeya Jones, 33. He was previously charged with concealment of a human corpse and several drug charges.

Police were called to an apartment on Nassau Road in Huntington Station on Sept. 2, 2024, after receiving a report of a foul odor and suspicious activity outside.

There officers discovered the suitcase with Jones’ partially decomposed remains, her wrists and ankles bound with a cord. She was last seen alive five days before when she was inside the building with Schroeder, prosecutors said.

Schroeder was arrested on Sept. 6, 2024, at Penn Station when he went to the LIRR’s lost and found office to claim his backpack, which he left on a train. It was found to contain both methamphetamine and GHB, or “liquid ecstasy.” He also had several cellphones in his possession, officials said.

A search warrant executed on Schroeder’s phone led to the discovery of a video he made on Aug. 29, which allegedly depicts him sexually assaulting Jones while she was unconscious and falling asleep on top of her.

An autopsy concluded Jones died by asphyxia due to torso compression and smothering.

“Ms. Jones should be alive today,” Tierney said. “She had a future, a family who loved her, and every right to live free from the alleged brutal assault she suffered at the hands of this defendant on the last day of her life. We will fight for her, for her voice, and for the justice she deserves.”
