WANTAGH, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A Long Island man brawled with cops—punching one in the face and biting another—after they stopped him for walking down the Sunrise Highway with an open beer on Sunday night, police said.
Officers spotted the 55-year-old with an open container of beer just after 9:30 p.m. on Sunrise Highway, near the Wantagh State Parkway, in Wantagh, according to Nassau County Police.
The officers asked for his ID, but he refused to comply, police said.
He then violently resisted arrest, sparking a struggle between him and the cops, according to police.
During the struggle, the man allegedly punched one officer in the face and bit another in the knee multiple times.
The suspect, identified as John Eidenweil, was eventually subdued and taken into custody.
The two officers were transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation, as was Eidenweil, police said.
Eidenweil faces charges of second-degree assault, resisting arrest and open alcohol container.
He was scheduled to be arraigned in Hempstead on Monday.
