NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A California man stopped in New Jersey with 128 pounds of marijuana told detectives he was unaware that the drugs were in the rental van he was driving, according to police.

Vincent Lee, of San Francisco, was stopped by Hackensack Police on Route 80 on Tuesday afternoon after he failed to use a turn signal, police said.

Lee was unable to provide paperwork for the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica rental van he was driving, according to police.

When officers searched the van, they found eight large cardboard boxes.

Lee told officers he didn't know what was in the boxes or who rented the van, according to police.

Police said the officers found 128 pounds of marijuana in vacuum sealed bags in the boxes.

According to police, Lee is a member of a "Chinese transnational organized crime syndicate." He was charged with possession of marijuana of 25 pounds or more with intent to distribute and was taken to Bergen County Jail pending his first court appearance.
