BAY SHORE, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 27-year-old man was indicted Wednesday for allegedly sexually abusing a 4-year-old girl after breaking into her family’s home on Long Island last month.

Darwin Barbacastillo, 27, of Brentwood, faces felony charges of predatory sexual assault against a child, criminal sexual act, burglary and sexual abuse, as well as a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the disturbing break-in on Sunday, Oct. 29.

According to Suffolk County prosecutors, Barbacastillo entered the family’s home in Bay Shore at 8 a.m. through a back door as they slept.

Surveillance video taken from inside the house allegedly shows him wandering through the home, checking bedroom doors and peering into unlocked rooms.

When he entered the room of two sisters, 9 and 4 years old, prosecutors said he began sexually abusing the younger girl, causing her to wake up.

He fled before the victim’s father woke up, prosecutors said. The dad found his two daughters crying in the hallway, and they told him what happened.

He reviewed the home’s surveillance system, which captured the alleged sexual abuse and Barbacastillo—who the father recognized as someone he’d previously met through mutual friends, prosecutors said.

Barbacastillo was arrested later that day and arraigned in Suffolk County court on Wednesday. He’s being held in custody and is due back in court Dec. 19.
