MAN'S TORSO FOUND IN NJ RIVER: Homicide investigation launched, ID unknown

ELIZABETH, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A torso found floating in the water in Elizabeth has prompted a homicide investigation, authorities said Thursday.

Officers were called to the waterfront on South Front Street shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday and discovered the torso of a man floating in the area where the Arthur Kill and Elizabeth River converge, the Union County Prosecutor's Office and the Elizabeth Police Department said in a joint statement.

The torso was recovered and taken to the Union County Medical Examiner’s Office, which ruled the unidentified man's death a homicide.

No additional information has been released.
