NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey mother was arrested in connection to the death of her 6-year-old daughter earlier this week, officials said Wednesday.
Zyhirah Hall, 26, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
At around 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 10, Essex County Prosecutor's detectives responded to a call regarding the death of a six-year-old girl at 19 Stratford Place in Newark.
The cause and manner of the girl's death are still under investigation pending the results of an autopsy.
"The case is under investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and details of the child's death are not yet clear," Mayor Ras Baraka said. "But what is undeniably certain to us is that every child in our city deserves safety, security, and an abundance of love and laughter. They deserve nurturing and nourishment, gentleness and generosity. Adoration and exaltation are our children's birthright."
"Newark mourns this little angel taken from us way too soon. And tonight, we wrap our arms around all our children, with love – and each other, in our sorrow," Baraka said.
