NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Police are searching for multiple suspects as they investigate at least two attempted child luring incidents in Wantagh this month, with the most recent one this past Saturday.
Nassau County Police said two girls were approached by a woman on Saturday afternoon, about three weeks after a boy was promised candy by a different woman who fled with a man.
The two girls, both 12 years old, were walking at Beltagh Avenue and Holiday Park Drive, near Forest Lake Elementary School, at 3:15 p.m. when they were approached by an Asian woman driving an older model gray SUV, police said.
The woman honked at the girls, rolled down her window and called out to them, according to cops.
The frightened kids hid and notified a parent, who contacted police.
In a similar incident about a mile away on Sunday, Oct. 8, a 7-year-old boy was on his front lawn near Jerusalem Avenue and Whitehall Lane when he was approached by a white woman at 3:35 p.m.
The woman tried to get the boy to come with her, promising him candy if he complied, police said.
He refused, ran inside his house and told his mother.
The woman got into a newer model, gray Buick Enclave driven by a white man and the two of them fled on Jerusalem Avenue, according to police.
The pair are believed to be in their early to mid-40s. Police described the woman as having a heavy build and brown hair.
Police haven't said if they believe the two incidents are connected in any way.
Detectives are asking anyone with info to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
