NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — President Joe Biden will lay out a six-point plan to combat surging coronavirus cases on Thursday, the White House announced Tuesday.

The plan will come as the US continues to lead the world in coronavirus cases and deaths. The more contagious delta variant spurred over 47,700 new cases recorded on Labor Day, up from about 8,400 daily new cases recorded on June 14, according to CDC data.
“As [Biden] has said since day one, his administration will pull every lever to get the pandemic under control,” White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters traveling with the president aboard Air Force One. “And, on Thursday, he will lay out a six-pronged strategy that will help us to do just that, working across the public and private sectors to help continue to get the pandemic under control.”
Psaki did not directly address whether Biden will announce new mandates, saying more information is to come.
"We need to continue to take more steps to make sure school districts are prepared and make sure communities across the country are prepared," Psaki added.
More than 647,000 people have died from the virus in the US, with the country eclipsing 40 million cases over the holiday weekend, CDC data show.
After touring Ida’s devastation in Queens and New Jersey Tuesday, Biden will meet with White House coronavirus advisors on Wednesday, according to his schedule.
The White House still plans to begin widely rolling out coronavirus boosters on Sept. 20. While Pfizer’s booster appears to be on schedule for that date, Anthony Fauci, Biden’s chief medical adviser, said on Sunday that Moderna’s extra shot may take several weeks to be approved.
