Emhoff was appearing at Dunbar High School's Museum of Dunbar History for a Black History Month event, but was whisked away due to the threat.

D.C. Public Schools press secretary Enrique Gutierrez confirmed the incident was a bomb threat and that everyone is safe.

"We had a threat today to the facility so we did — basically we took the precaution of evacuating everybody, as you saw. I think everyone is safe. The building is clear. But I don't have any specific details at this moment," he said.

According to the pool report, minutes after Emhoff was escorted out, an announcement came over the intercom asking teachers to evacuate the school. Pool reporters left the building as well.

His staff informed the press pool there was "a security issue" reported by the school to Secret Service, but did not provide more information.
