NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The Food and Drug Administration is set to approve third Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine doses for immunocompromised people on Thursday, according to a new report.

Two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News the agency will amend the emergency use authorizations for both shots that day.

Many immunocompromised people who have received the COVID-19 vaccine “are still vulnerable to [the virus] following vaccination because they may not mount an effective immune response to the shots,” the outlet reported.

Approximately 2.7% of adults in the United States have compromised immune systems, according to the outlet.
