Firefighters discovered the 23-year-old mother and 13-month-old son in a burning New London home just after 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The woman was severely injured when they found her, and emergency responders pronounced her dead on the scene.

Firefighters found the baby in a crib on the second floor, and EMS rushed him to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

He’s expected to survive, according to police.

Second-Class Petty Officer George Dodson was found kneeling in the backyard with minor injuries and soot all over his neck and chest, officials said.

Dodson admitted to attacking his wife and starting the fire, prosecutors said.

He told police he was jealous of his wife after the couple decided to pursue an open relationship, according to court documents obtained by NBC New York.

"We opened up our relationship, and she found another man she loved more, and I could not stand the thought of it, so I killed her," he said.

Dodson faces charges for muder, arson, risk of injury to a minor, tampering with evidence, cruelty to animals and more.

The judge at his arraignment on Thursday ordered him held on $3 million bond.

Dodson has been a member of the Navy for five years and worked as a nuclear technician.

He's an active-duty service member assigned to the USS Newport News (SSN 750), which is located at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, according to a Navy spokesperson.
