NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Nestlé USA Inc. on Sunday announced the recall of nearly 28,000-pounds of its frozen DiGiorno pizzas.
The DiGiorno Crispy Pan Crust pepperoni pizzas were recalled by the company “due to misbranding and undeclared allergens,” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The pizzas contain textured soy protein, which is a known allergen that was not declared on the product's packaging.

Nestlé also posted a recall notice on its website, telling customers that the “affected pizzas are labeled as DiGiorno Crispy Pan Crust Pepperoni Pizza but in fact are DiGiorno Three Meat Crispy Pan Crust Pizza.”
The company added that people who have a soy allergy “could have an allergic reaction and should not consume the product.”
The pizzas were produced on June 30, 2021, with the lot code 1181510721 and a “Best Buy” date of MAR2022 on the label. The products also have the establishment number “EST. 1682A” inside the USDA mark of inspection, according to the FSIS.
The products are sold at retail locations across the country. The problem was discovered after Nestlé received a complaint that a three-meat pizza was labeled as pepperoni pizza.
“There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider,” the FSIS said in a release.
Customers who purchased the pizzas should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
There is no safety issue with the product for those who do not have a soy allergy.
