NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A Newark police officer admitted he killed his estranged wife and injured her boyfriend back in 2019, videos played at his trial on Monday reportedly showed.

Prosecutors say Lt. John Formisano, 51, shot and killed his wife, Christie Solaro-Formisano, and shot and injured her boyfriend in Jefferson in July 2019, NJ.com reported.

Videos played in court on Monday showed Formisano confessing to the murder, the outlet reported.

"I went home from work and I came home and found my wife in bed with another guy," Formisano can be heard saying, according to the outlet.

"Okay, is the gun that you used in the car?" Livingston police officer Ed Kelly reportedly asks him.

"It's in the trunk," Formisano reportedly responds.

Jurors are being asked to determine whether Formisano "was properly read his Miranda Rights during his arrest," the outlet reported.

His attorneys have argued that "key questions clearly preceded a reading of his rights," according to the outlet.
