HOBOKEN, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey daycare worker accused of abusing a 9-month-old girl in her care was arrested and charged, prosecutors in Hudson County said Wednesday.
Diana Camacho, 52, was arrested at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday after she turned herself in at the county prosecutor's office.
She is facing charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
Camacho had been reported to the Hudson County Institutional Abuse Investigations Unit for alleged abuses by Kiddie Academy in Hoboken, where she worked.
After being made aware that a "staff member acted in a manner contrary to operational procedures and our core values," the daycare said on Dec. 14, 2020, it contacted authorities.
The Special Victims Unit then launched an investigation after being contacted by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, Institutional Abuse Investigations Unit about possible abuse by Camacho, officials said.
Camacho was fired from her job, the daycare said.
"Any such incidences are not tolerated, and the staff member was terminated from her employment at the Academy," officials with Kiddie Academy of Hoboken said. "We have recently learned of the arrest of this former staff member pursuant to the incident last December. We are a local, family-owned independent business and parents ourselves who care deeply about the children in our care and our community. We will continue to fully cooperate with local authorities during their ongoing investigation."
