
OCEAN COUNTY, N.J. (1010 WINS) – A 15-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was hit by a car while trying to cross a highway in Ocean County with friends on Wednesday night, police said.

Dale Ritchie, 22, of Manahawkin, was driving a 2012 black Toyota and merging onto Route 72 westbound from West Bay Avenue when he hit the girl around 7 p.m., according to police.
The girl was trying to cross the highway from the Holiday Inn with a group of friends when she was struck by the car.
She was immediately taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center and later flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center with injuries to her head and lower body, police said.
A GoFundMe page was created on behalf of the girl’s family where she was identified as Makiah Worthy and stated she is in critical condition in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
The fundraising site had raised over $14,000 so far.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Stafford Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau, and no charges have been filed.
