NJ house explosion that killed 2 was 'not accidental': police

SEWELL, N.J. (1010 WINS) – The explosion that destroyed a home in South Jersey over the weekend, killing two people, was “not accidental,” police said Monday.

The explosion rocked Tranquility Court in Sewell around 2 a.m. Sunday, leveling the home, which was “fully engulfed in flames” by the time police arrived at the scene.

The bodies of an unidentified man and woman were found inside the rubble.

In a statement Monday, Washington Township Police told ABC News there’s an “ongoing criminal investigation” into the explosion, describing the blast as “not accidental.”

The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office has called the deaths “suspicious.”

Multiple agencies are investigating the explosion, including the state fire marshal.
