HUDSON COUNTY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey corrections officer who was arrested and charged with murdering his girlfriend and her best friend told police he killed them because his girlfriend had been "ignoring his calls" while the two were on vacation together, according to a report.

Prosecutors say John Menendez, 24, of West New York, shot and killed his girlfriend Anna Shpilberg and her best friend Luiza Shinkarevskaya, both 40, in Newark on Tuesday.

After police arrested Menendez, he admitted on tape that he "killed both of them," NJ.com reported.

"Just arrest me, bro," Menendez said, according to the outlet. "This is crazy. I can't believe I did this."

Menendez "said he lost it and killed" Shpilberg and Shinkarevskaya, the outlet reported, citing court records.

"Both women had just been on vacation and Menendez said that Anna had been ignoring his calls," a police officer reportedly wrote.

Attorney information for Menendez, who works as a corrections officer at the Hudson County Jail, wasn't immediately available Friday.
