NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A New Jersey man was arrested after a standoff with Somerset County SWAT team last week which left a woman and the suspect hospitalized, prosecutors said.

The standoff began with a 911 call Friday morning reporting an unknown problem at Alonzo D. Blakey’s Columbia Drive residence in Morristown.

Further calls indicated that a woman was being held against her will inside of Blakey’s home.

Bridgewater Police found the residence's entrance barricaded when they arrived at the scene.

Blakey was inside, allegedly threatening to harm both the victim and himself.

The Crisis Negotiations Team and SWAT officers also showed up at the scene shortly after.

Police negotiated with Blakey, 50, for about four hours before officers heard the victim's screams and forcibly entered the house, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald explained.

The victim with stab wounds escaped from inside the house and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Blakey had self-inflicted stab wounds and was given immediate medical attention.

He was then arrested.

Blakey has been charged with assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, prosecutors said.

He is now hospitalized under police guard, pending transport to Somerset County Jail for a detention hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
