NJ man charged for string of armed pharmacy robberies

ELIZABETH, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 28-year-old Irvington man was charged for the armed robbery of three pharmacies in Elizabeth carried out in June and July, according to the DOJ.

In each robbery, Charles Johnson allegedly demanded employees hand over oxycodone, promethazine and other prescription medication while brandishing a gun and threatening to shoot people in the stores.

Law enforcement said officers collected extensive surveillance camera footage linking Johnson to the robberies.

Prosecutors charged him with Hobbs Act Robbery and using a firearm during a violent crime.

He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years.
