NEW YORK (1010 WINS/ WCBS 880 NEWS) – A New Jersey man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly shooting a woman in the head inside an office building in Bergen County on New Year's Eve, prosecutors said.
Police officers responded to a report of a homicide on 101 Williams St. in Ramsey, New Jersey, at around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2023, where they found Crystal Peterson, 41, with a gunshot wound to her head.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the Ramsey Police Department identified Luis A. Suarez, 41, as the suspect, and he was arrested on the same day.
Police allegedly found the 9 mm gun used in the murder inside of Suarez's car.
According to public records, Suarez and Peterson lived together as late as November 2023 in an apartment in Montclair, New Jersey.
Suarez turned himself in after the shooting.
He is now being charged with first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
