NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A New Jersey man drowned while swimming in the Delaware River at a recreation area in Pennsylvania on Monday, according to authorities.
Multiple rescue teams responded to calls made at around 1:45 p.m. about the drowning at Bushkill Access in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, according to a statement by the National Park Service.
National Park Service rangers, along with dive team members from Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, as well as rescue teams from Bushkill, Dingmans, and Westfall Fire Departments and Lehman Township EMS, arrived on the scene within minutes.
At 3:07 p.m., the rescue teams recovered the body of a 39-year-old man from Lakewood, New Jersey, approximately 20-30 feet from the shore in about 7 feet of water.
The identity of the man who drowned on Monday has not yet been released.
This marks the second drowning in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area this summer. The first happened on June 29, when 24-year-old Jeysson Ariel Osorio-Reyes, of Jackson Township, never resurfaced while swimming. His body was recovered after hours of searching.
