NJ man pleads guilty to shooting FBI informant after calling him 'rat'

EAST ORANGE, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 40-year-old New Jersey man pleaded guilty to retaliation charges after shooting an FBI informant in 2019, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

On Aug. 24, 2019, Kalil Bryant shot a man who had snitched on an associate of the defendant’s after calling him a “rat.”

The victim survived the shooting, and Bryant proceeded to send him death threats.

In September 2019, he sent one of the victim’s friends texts reading “Tell [the victim] he gonna Die soon for being a rat,” and “Prepare to bury him soon.”

Along with the texts, Bryant sent pictures of a rat and a gun.

He was convicted of sending interstate threats and retaliating against an informant this February.

On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to additional charges of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and a separate retaliating against an informant offense.

He faces up to 60 years in prison when he’s sentenced.
