HILLSIDE, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 34-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint at a New Jersey intersection Sunday after his car was struck in a crash orchestrated by the drivers of two other cars, authorities said.
The victim was traveling west on Winans Avenue in Hillside at 9 p.m. when a silver BMW stopped short at the intersection with Schley Street, police told NJ.com.
As the Chatham man sought to avoid hitting the BMW, an Audi rushed up behind the BMW, forcing the victim's car to collide with the Audi.
The BMW driver then made a U-turn and pulled behind the victim, boxing his car in, police said.
The driver then got out of his BMW and threatened the victim with a gun in his waistband, saying, "You want to get killed? "Give me your money."
The victim fled his car before the thief snatched his wallet, which had been left in his car and had around $50 inside, police said.
The occupants of the Audi then got out of that car and fled in the BMW with the robber.
Police later discovered that the Audi had been stolen in Woodland Park.
An investigation is ongoing.
