PITTSBURGH (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey man who threw a homemade explosive at a police officer in Pittsburgh during protests following the death of George Floyd in 2020 was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison.

Nicholas Lucia, 27, of Long Beach Township pleaded guilty last December in federal court in Pittsburgh to a charge of obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder.
He now received a sentence of two years in federal prison and will be subject to three years of supervision after finishing his sentence, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Western Pennsylvania said Wednesday.
Lucia threw an explosive device on May 30, 2020, toward a group of uniformed police officers who were trying to maintain control during the ongoing protest.
The explosive landed on the vest of one of the officers and another pulled it off, immediately throwing it before it exploded.
One officer suffered a concussion as he was close to the explosion, according to prosecutors.
