NJ motorist charged for killing pedestrian while driving wrong direction

PEQUANNOCK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office on Saturday announced charges against a 35-year-old woman for killing a pedestrian while driving the wrong direction.

Maria Oliveri, struck and killed 55-year-old Jill Altman Russo around 8:23 a.m. on June 11 while driving north in the southbound lane of 157 Boulevard, according to prosecutors.

She also hit a 32-year-old bicyclist who suffered serious injuries but survived the crash.

Emergency responders rushed both victims to Chilton Memorial Hospital, where Altman Russo, a mother of three, was pronounced dead.

Oliveri is facing charges for vehicular homicide, disorderly person assault by auto and related offenses.
