JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A Jersey City police officer investigating a shooting was injured when he was struck by a stolen SUV over the weekend, authorities said.
At approximately 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, police were called to Provost Street in the Powerhouse Arts District, after reports of a large crowd and shots fired, according to Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.
Officers aroubd the corner on spotted a Kia Sportage speeding toward them, which then struck one of the officers in the leg, Wallace-Scalcione said.
The Sportage -- which was later identified as stolen, then hit a police vehicle before it turned onto Barrow Street and struck three unoccupied parked vehicles.
The people in the SUV hopped out of the vehicle and fled on foot, Wallace-Scalcione added.
The wounded officer was treated and then released.
Police later discovered that a New York man had been taken to the Jersey City Medical Center by private means after being shot in the buttocks.
