NJ officials working to identify man whose body was found in the Hackensack River

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Police are still trying to identify a man whose body was found in the Hackensack River Saturday.

At about 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, the Secaucus Police Department received a report of a possible body in the Hackensack River, underneath the Eastern Spur of the New Jersey Turnpike, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said.

ABC7 reported that a fisherman found the body wrapped in plastic.

The body was recovered with help from dive teams from the Lyndhurst and Mahwah fire departments and additional support from the Secaucus, Kearny and Wallington fire departments, officials said.

The man has not yet been identified, and the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit is to help with the identification process.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Secaucus Police Department are investigating.
