PATERSON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Prosecutors in New Jersey have filed a forfeiture lawsuit in order to seize nearly $50,000 from a woman who was charged with having thousands of oxycodone pills and other drugs earlier this year, NJ Advance reported.

The Paterson woman, Lina Munoz-Cubillos, was already under surveillance by narcotics officers when she was pulled over while riding in a taxi whose driver disregarded a traffic signal on May 11, officials said.

Munoz-Cubillos, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, gave police permission to search her backpack. Inside, they found 4,990 oxycodone pills and keys to both her apartment and a self-storage unit, according to court documents.

Law enforcement then searched Munoz-Cubillos’ home, with her permission, where they found more narcotics and other evidence.

Cops found another 930 oxycodone pills in Munoz-Cubillo’s bedroom, sandwich bags filled with methamphetamine, a vacuum sealer, latex gloves, two scales, a phony New Jersey driver’s license and a bogus Social Security card, authorities said.

Investigators also found 13,200 oxycodone pills inside of a storage unit rented under Munoz-Cubillos’ name along with three pounds of marijuana, 10.55 ounces of cocaine, and multiple dryer sheets which were allegedly used to mask the smell of drugs.

A large sum of money, $49,480 in cash, was also found stuffed inside shopping bags which were in a suitcase that was locked in the storage unit.

The lawsuit brought on by the prosecutors argues that since the cash was obtained through illegal activity it should be turned over to the state.

Munoz-Cubillos has 35 days to respond to the complaint or give up the money.

She was charged with second-degree possession with intent to distribute 100 doses or more of prescription drugs and was ticketed for failure to wear a seatbelt.
