TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey reported more than 3,800 new positive COVID-19 test results and 21 new deaths on Tuesday — numbers Gov. Phil Murphy described as "devastating."
The Garden State also announced that it is adding New Hampshire and Maine to its 14-day travel advisory quarantine list. There are now 45 state and territories on the list.
A total of 3,877 COVID-19 tests results came back positive on Monday, bringing the state's cumulative case total to 260,430, Murphy tweeted. The 21 new fatalities pushed the state's death toll to 14,661, he said.
"These numbers are devastating. We are still in the midst of a pandemic," he wrote. "Wear a mask. Social distance. Stay safe."
Essex County reported 675 of the new positive test results, while three other counties — Passaic, Union and Bergen — each logged more than 300 new cases.
As of Monday, 1,645 people in the state were hospitalized with confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases, up from 1,537 on Sunday.
Three hundred and twenty-seven of the 1,645 patients were in intensive care, and 98 were on ventilators, the state's COVID-19 tracker shows.
On Monday, New Jersey tightened its restrictions on restaurants and bars amid the steady climb in the state's COVID-19 numbers, with new rules banning indoor dining after 10 p.m. and prohibiting barside seating.
In an interview with MSNBC's Katy Tur on Tuesday afternoon, Murphy said the state is "seeing a lot of indoor [COVID-19] transmission," as well as an uptick in the number of restaurants "turning into clubs as the night wears on."
"We're fine if you're outdoors, we're fine if you're doing takeout, but those were just becoming spreading events," he said.
New Jerseyans must continue to keep their guards up, even if "COVID fatigue" is wearing on them, he said.
"Everybody's got it. Who could blame you?" he said. "But we've got to stay in the fight here."
