NJ reports 953 new COVID cases, 2nd day in a row over 900

TRENTON (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey reported more than 950 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the second day in a row the state has reported over 900 cases.

Gov. Phil Murphy said there were 953 new cases, bringing the statewide total to 216,023 cases.

It comes a day after the state reported 993 new cases on Tuesday. Last Thursday, the state reported 1,301 positive cases, the highest daily total since May 29.

Ocean County again reported the most cases at 194—20% of the total.

There were another seven deaths, Murphy said. The state's death toll is now 14,394.

The number of people hospitalized also increased to 699 patients Wednesday. It was 649 on Tuesday.

Among those hospitalized, 168 were in intensive care and 58 were on ventilators.

The state's rate of transmission decreased slightly to 1.15. A transmission rate above 1 indicates that for every infected person, the virus is spreading to at least one other person on average.
