NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A stolen car chased by police from Passaic County into Essex County Tuesday night ended in a crash with two vehicles, hurting four people, authorities said.

The chase began around 7:15 p.m. when a police officer noticed a 2020 Audi stolen from Hazlet traveling in the area of Broad Street and Elmwood Drive in Clifton.

Instead of pulling over for a traffic stop, the driver led police on a chase through Clifton, Route 3 East, Route 21 South, and into Newark, Clifton Police Det. Lt. Robert Bracken told NJ.com.

The car then crashed into two other vehicles in the area of Grafton Avenue and Broadway in Newark.

Bracken said the three people inside the stolen car fled as officers chased the suspects and other officers treated crash victims.

"The foot pursuit continued through the streets of Newark and eventually into a nearby housing complex, where the suspects were able to evade capture," Bracken said. "The suspects remain at large."

All of the victims had minor injuries, but the extent of their injuries remains unclear.

According to Bracken, EMS treated one officer at the scene for an injury sustained during the foot chase.
