PARAMUS, N.J. (WCBS 880) — The Bergen County Toys for Tots toy drive in New Jersey has been forced to start from scratch after all of the donated presents were lost in a fire.
There were 400 toys being stored in the Paramus Little League building when a weekend fire destroyed them all.
"It is so sad and I was devastated," said Brenda Brundage, who has run the program for 16 years.
The gifts go to kids in need.
"We don't know who they are and they don't know who we are, but it makes the holiday season very amazing," Brundage said.
The toy drive has now started anew and the cardboard collection bins at The Orange Lantern restaurant are already filling up.
"This community has already started stepping up and bringing toys immediately. I don't know what we're going to do. It's amazing how many people have heard and just want to help," Brundage said.
One woman stopped by Wednesday to drop off Legos and toy cars.
"That's what Thanksgiving is all about, giving back," the woman said. "It makes me feel good and I hope my kids realize too because they were part of it."
One man donated some board games.
