LONG BRANCH, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey police officer was arrested for running a meth lab out of his house, prosecutors announced on Sunday.

Officers were called to the home of 50-year-old Christopher Walls, a 19-year veteran at the Long Branch Police Department, over of a domestic disturbance, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

A statement from the prosecutor said officers found the ingredients and equipment for making meth in the basement and a shed after being tipped off by someone in the home.

The statement noted that Walls had books related to making meth, explosives, and poison.

Police also found six guns, ammo, and high-capacity magazines in an unsecured safe that could’ve been accessed by a child living in the house, officials said.

“It is particularly distressing that this hazard was caused by a sworn law enforcement officer,” Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said in the statement.

Walls is facing six charges related to the meth production as well as a second-degree child endangerment charge and firearm possession during a controlled-dangerous substance offense.

If convicted of all charges, Walls faces a maximum of 60 years in prison.
