FORT LEE, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A New Jersey woman was charged in connection with the death of a 12-year-old girl who overdosed over the holiday weekend.

Frances Caso, of Fort Lee, was charged Sunday with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of controlled dangerous substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Police responded around 3:30 p.m. Saturday to a 911 call about an unresponsive 12-year-old girl at a home on Maple Street in Fort Lee.

The girl was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. She hasn't been identified.

It wasn't immediately clear what drug was in the girl's system, but prosecutors said she'd ingested a "fatal dose of narcotics."

After learning there were indications she died of a drug overdose, the prosecutor's office and Fort Lee police began an investigation into "related drug activity."

The investigation showed Caso and three other juveniles were at the home around the time the girl overdosed, prosecutors said Monday.

According to prosecutors, a search of the home "revealed multiple suspected controlled dangerous substances and paraphernalia used to ingest controlled dangerous substances."

Caso's connection to the girl and the other children wasn't immediately clear.

No other arrests have been reported as the investigation continues.
