Michele Linzalone, 73, called 911 on Monday morning to report the accidental shooting of her husband, 74-year-old Rocky Linzalone, at their home in Middletown, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers responding to the Borden Road home found the husband in a second-floor bedroom with a gunshot wound to his head. He later died.

Monmouth County prosecutors joined a police investigation into the shooting, and authorities determined that it “was not the result of an accidental discharge.”

Linzalone was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. If convicted of murder, she faces up to life in prison.

Prosecutors haven’t indicated a possible motive for the shooting.
