DENNIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 40-year-old woman was killed Tuesday when she veered off a New Jersey highway and struck a tree, police said.

Melissa DeJesus, of Vineland, was heading north on Route 47 near milepost 16.8 in Dennis Township just after 7:30 p.m. when she "traveled off the road, struck a tree, and overturned," state police Sgt. Philip Curry told NJ.com.

It wasn't exactly clear what caused her car to go off the road, which is also known as North Delsea Drive.

Curry said the crash is under investigation.
