NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Brooklyn man driving a Mercedes Benz with fake Texas plates attemped to flee cops on foot and then headbutted an officer as he was being arrested on Long Island early Friday morning, police said.

Dwayne Gordon, 20, was stopped in Lawrence around 12:50 a.m. for committing multiple vehicle infractions, according to Nassau County police.

After pulling Gordon's Mercedes over near Route 878 and Rockaway Turnpike, the officers discovered he had fraudulent Texas plates on the vehicle, police said.

Gordon was placed into custody, but when officers tried to put him in a patrol car, he allegedly pulled away and attempted to flee on foot.

The cops were able to get a hold of him and tried again to get him in the patrol car, but he then "began to violently resist arrest," police said.

During the fray, Gordon headbutted an officer, cutting his face, according to police.

Gordon was ultimately arrested and charged with second-degree assault, second-degree escape, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and multiple traffic infractions.

The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said.
