NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Long Island highway patrol officer was injured Tuesday afternoon after a car crashed into his parked vehicle while he was investigating another collision, authorities said Wednesday.
The incident happened on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 36 in New Hyde Park where the officer was sitting in his patrol car with the emergency lights on just before 3 p.m., police said.
A 63-year-old man driving an Isuzu truck crashed into the back of the officer's car while traveling eastbound, according to officials.
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries to his neck and back.
The driver of the other vehicle remained on the scene. and the truck was taken in for a break and safety check.
