LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A dead humpback whale washed up on the Jersey Shore early Thursday morning.

The whale, measuring between 20 and 30 feet long, turned up at 51st street in Long Beach Township in Ocean County, according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center.

The stranding center received a call about the whale around 6:45 a.m.

A photo from the center shows the whale lying in the surf after daybreak.

Long Beach Township Police were at the scene, with stranding center staff on their way.
