SHIRLEY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Police used a sled to rescue a deer from an icy bay off Long Island on Sunday afternoon.

Police said several marine bureau officers responded to a report of a deer stuck in the ice of Narrow Bay just before 4:20 p.m.
One officer deployed an ice sled, while two other officers tended the line on the sled.
The officer on the sled maneuvered his way to the fawn and managed to lift the animal out of the 40-degree water and onto the sled.
The two other officers then pulled the sled safely back to shore at 4:55 p.m.
The deer was towel dried and wrapped in blankets, police said.
The fawn was then taken to an animal rescue center for treatment.
