Pickup driver plows into NJ McDonald's, leaving giant hole

HACKENSACK, N.J. (1010 WINS) – A pickup truck driver crashed into a McDonald’s in Hackensack early Tuesday morning, leaving a large hole in the side of the restaurant.

The Hackensack Fire Department responded at 3:20 a.m. to a report that a black Dodge Ram 1500 had struck the side of the McDonald’s at 343 River St.

Responding firefighters found a driver had smashed into the south side of the building and caused structural damage, fire officials said.

Photos from the fire department show the Dodge sticking out of the McDonald’s before the vehicle was removed.

One employee who was inside the restaurant was injured, fire officials said. The worker was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center in unknown condition.

There was no immediate word on what happened to the truck driver or what may have led to the crash.

Hackensack police and the city’s buildings department are investigating. According to a sign posted outside, the building was "declared unsafe for human occupancy" as the inspection continues.
