
MAPLEWOOD, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Police are investigating a string of armed robberies which occurred in two neighboring New Jersey towns on the same day with similar patterns.

Six of the robberies happened in Irvington while three happened in Maplewood, all on Saturday, Jan 22. The incidents all took place near the border of the two towns.
The three victims in the Maplewood jurisdiction were women who were walking alone when they were approached by an individual in a mask.
The first of the Maplewood incidents happened at 10:10 a.m. around 124 Jacoby Street where a man approached a 64-year-old from behind with a handgun. He then knocked her to the ground, struck her in the face and stole her purse, police said. He then fled in a dark colored vehicle waiting nearby.
The victim was treated at University Hospital.
Not long after, at approximentaly 11 a.m., in the area of 95 Franklin Terrace, a 44-year-old woman was walking alone and was approached by a dark colored vehicle. Again a masked individual exited the vehicle, flashed a handgun and demanded her purse.
The assailant took the victim’s purse after a brief struggle and then returned to the vehicle and fled the scene.
At around 1 p.m., a 37-year-old woman walking alone in the area of 616 Irvington Avenue faced a similar situation. A dark colored vehicle again pulled up and a masked individual exited from the passenger side, brandished a handgun, and demanded her purse. The victim did not resist the demands and the individual proceeded to take the purse and flee in the vehicle. The woman was unharmed.
Irvington Police reported six robberies under the same circumstances. All the victims were also women, but police said there were no injuries.
Police have identified the vehicle used through license plate readers in the area which is a dark gray Infinity that was stolen out of Newark City on Saturday while the car was running with the key in it. The vehicle has since been impounded by Maplewood Police and towed to police headquarters for a forensic examination.
