NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris hosted a COVID-19 memorial ceremony Tuesday night as part of their inauguration.
The ceremony, which started at 5:30 p.m., honored the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have lost their lives to COVID-19. The U.S.'s COVID-19 death toll surpassed 400,000 on Tuesday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
During the ceremony, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was illuminated to pay tribute to the country's COVID-19 victims.
Twenty-five New York City buildings, including the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center, also lit up during the ceremony.
