TRENTON (1010 WINS) -- Online searches for "weed," "marijuana" and "how to roll a joint" spiked in New Jersey on Tuesday night as voters passed an amendment legalizing recreational use of pot in the state.
Searches for "how to roll a joint" jumped nearly 3,000% over a four-hour span on Google.
Other popular search terms included "when will weed be legal in new jersey," "is weed legal in NJ now," and "NJ election results marijuana."
Under the amendment, only those 21 and older could legally buy and use the drug in New Jersey. The amendment will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2021.
It's unclear when legal marijuana will become available since legislation must first be passed in order to set up the new market. But it's expected to move relatively quickly because the Democrat-led Legislature and Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy supported legalization.
